Homefront

Watched this passable action thriller. Ok but not really anything special, good fight/action sequences but story a bit weak. 3/5

Paranoia

Just watched Paranoia very good plenty of messages here for the greedy quite well acted if a little cheesy and the subject of technology close to my heart 4/5

Insidious chapter 2

Watched Insidious 2 last night. What a pile of pants. The first one was bad enough! But this is just a load of people running around in the dark jumping every time someone or something appears (a bit like the current government lol) do not bother unless you want to be bored out your head 0/5

Edge of Tomorrow

Another Cruise hit. He may not be everybody's cup of tea. But the does make some entertaining movies.

The Last Days On Mars

The Last  Days on Mars - is a not too bad effort at a scifi adventure. A little slow to start with. but a must for scifi/horror fans. I enjoyed it and it kept me watching which is more than I can say for Gravity the so called movie of the year LOL 3/5.

Gravity

Gravity - I had my suspicions when this was billed as the movie of the year that it would probably be pants, how exciting can a movie about being stranded in space be? not very is the answer. very poor movie, in fact probably one of the worst this year!! 1/5 and that is for he attempt!

Escape Plan

Escape Plan - again a very average action thriller. Better than Runner Runner at least. But lacked real punch story line wise. Surprise ending caught me out for once though. But I was not wide awake when watching this. 3/5

Runner Runner

Runner Runner - is a very average thriller about gambling. I have to say that Timberlake is not an actor and should stick to the music. The story is week and acting poor all around. The only good thing about this movie is the lovely Gemma Arterton who deserves better roles. 2/5

Machete Kills

Machete kills is an extremely tongue in cheek movie taking the pee out of action thrillers basically like Bond and Star Wars. It is so stupid you cannot help but watch and laugh. Ok if you like that sort of thing. 2.5/5

Prisoners

Prisoners - is a very average thriller very average story line.. But performances were quite good from the main actors. Wort ha watch just! 3/5

Saturday, 28 September 2013

Rush

Rush - the only rush I felt was the wind in my pants and this movie is pants. It concentrates on battle between Niki Lauda and James Hunt for world championship. But I found it poorly scripted and poorly acted. 2/5 at best.

Riddick

Riddick - was again rather disappointing, I think they have tried to re visit to the Pitch Black idea. But it was no where near as good. Although there is more action in this installment. It is just another vehicle for Vin Diesel to repeat himself. bu tat least it was better than the terrible Find Me Gulity! 2.5/5

Getaway

Getaway promised much but delivered very little. I really wonder sometimes how some of these movies get produced. Car chases were very average not really exciting at all. Acting in the most part was wooden. Selena Gomez probably gave the best performance (but not that good!). 2/5

Mud

Mud is a very long winded drama and not very exciting at all. Some good acting here. But the story lacked punch. I was not convinced at all. 2/5

The World's End

The World's End is as I suspected another rubbish "comedy"vehicle for Pegg and co. I have never been a fan of Pegg and his best movie is probably How to make friends and influence people. I did not find this funny, the gags were predictable and story line poor. 1/5

Now You See Me

Now You See Me just watched this fantastic movie. At last an original plot and story line for a change. And for once they did misdirect me. I did not see the magicians help until the last but one scene in the cell. I knew something was afoot by the way the cell lock clicked. Then When Morgan freeman said there was somebody unknown helping them. Then it fell into place who it was. Really recommend this one 4/5

The Frozen Ground

The Frozen Ground - was not a bad movie at all. The cinematography was great and passable acting performances (and you cannot loose by putting in the lovely Vanessa Hudgens in, who is beginning to show what range she has). Based on true events so the story is perhaps a little bland again. But I did enjoy the scene where they trick the murderer into giving himself away, (wonder it it really happened that way though?).4/5

Empire State

Empire State is based on a True events about inside heist on armored car company. Quite well acted. But not exactly exciting. But then real life events very rarely are. 3/5

3D

According to BBC click D movies are a dead issue. They have not caught on and sales are virtually non existent now. I have said this all along. No one wants to watch something where you have to wear glasses for minimal picture improvement. In fact James Cameron still says it will happen with the new TVs coming through wear glasses are nor required it just needs prices to fall. But he says current 3D (which he helped develop) is not dead. It is simply had issues due to poor encoding of movies (yes movies which were never filmed in 3D so therefore they ain't 3D!) As with HD they ain't true HD if they ain't been filmed in HD and not that many movies are. That is why you will see some blurays with brilliant picture and others even though new movies are not that good a picture (along with how they were filmed). I still have my doubts even with new TVs??

Kick Ass 2

Kick ass 2 - I enjoyed this. But I was right in that it is no where near as good as the original. It lacked the punch and feel of the first movie. Even if it did try and put a message across that everyone can be a hero! 3/5

Elysium

Elysium is an action thriller which was enjoyable. But will not win any Oscars. The story is about a fascist government who live in a space colony along with the wealthy and healthy above the earth. while everybody else lives in poverty, poor health and squalor on earth (not unlike our government and conditions). one man can change this with an upload. 3/5

Pain and Gain

Pain & gain is a Michael Bay produced movie based on real life events. A gang of body builders take a dodgy dealer character for everything he has got by kidnapping him. But they prove to be very inept. I am afraid this was not up to my expectations. Very poor crime caper. There is a moment where they are trying to kill the victim and cannot do it no mater how they try, which is almost funny? 2/5 at best.

2 Guns

2 Guns is a very average buddy buddy action thriller. They would have been better doing a straight action thriller as the buddy dialogue is awful. An American audience may like this kind of thing. But I felt this spoiled the movie. 3/5 being generous!

The Iceman

The Iceman - is a quite well acted movie. But considering that this is about a real life hit man who killed over a 1000 people. there is not all that much violence and what there is is not too graphic. It concentrates more on his obsession with protecting his family. 3/5

The Great Gatsby Bluray

The Great Gatsby is pretty much same as the original based on F Scott Fitzgerald novel. Well acted. But the story is pretty bland I think. What made this move stand out was perhaps the soundtrack a blend of 20s and 00s and modern music. Especially in the first half of the movie. 3/5

Elysium

Kick Ass 2

Drive snippet

By the way for those of you who had not spotted it. Drive appears to be a Very Great Western like movie. That movie being the classic western Shane. A criminal who is trying to go straight (Shane a gunfighter who is trying to stop gunfighting). Driver tires to help a family against evil men (Shane helps a family when local land owner tries to move them on from their farm) and at the end of Drive it is not clear if he is driving off into the sunset of if he is dead. Shane rides off into the sunset at the end and there has always been debate as to if Shane is dead or just wounded. These are the main similarities. There may be others. Such as the drivers attachment to the young boy of the family whom he seems to relate to. Perhaps he came from a similar background. 5/5 for both movies.

No One Lives Trailer

Prisoners Trailer

Getaway Trailer

The Conjuring

The Conjuring - was about as scary as watching paint dry. As usual advertised as being scariest movie this year. Sorry but this kind of movie has deteriorated in the last few years. 1/5.

There are very few scary or thrilling horror movies about. The only one I would recommend is No One Lives which was at least a little different. 3/5

RIPD

R.I.P.D. - I was hoping that this would be a good one. But I found it decidedly boring and I thought I was watching M.I.B. as it was just the same except they were chasing criminals turning into monsters instead of aliens. 2/5

Red 2

Red 2 - poor script poor acting. Bruce Willis is in it simply to collect his paycheck (as are some of the others). But then so are several aging action stars. I cannot say RED 1 was that good. But his is awful. But Hollywood will go on making these as long as people pay to see them I suppose. 2/5 at best.

Oblivion

Just watched Oblivion for 2nd time. Not a brilliant movie. But enjoyable and at least the acting is OK and the storyline is not bad. Plus I like this area of scifi and aliens anyway. 4/5

Luther

Luther - Watched an episode of this when it first started and was not impressed. However now having watched the complete 3 series. It is an excellent police drama. Reminds me of the British version of Wallander some what, which I also enjoyed. Not a movie but well worth watching. even if it takes you a while to get into it. 5/5

Gallowwalkers

Gallow walkers - Trailer seemed interesting. But then that is it's purpose. what a load of rubbish. Poor acting, poor action should have been called Gallow Wa.kers. 0/5

#Enders's game

Ender's Game Official Trailer #2 (2013) - Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford Movie HD

Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim - found this to be entertaining but not brilliant and definitely not well acted. Reminded me of the old Japanese Godzilla movies. 2.5/5

Killing Season

Killing Season is to me a 'b' movie with big names and low budget. Two men hunt one another in the woods and keep turning the tables o none another. Sounds good, but this is all about Serbia/Bosnia and war crimes. I can see the message being sent. but it could have been done much better. 2/5

Only God Forgives

Only God Forgives - is an acquired taste I think. Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive). I think he has tried to capture a similar feel to Drive. But is is done in a more arty way. There are scenes where dialogue appears to be spoken, But music is used to convey the scene and you cannot here the dialogue. Very violent again like drive but a strange way of conveying the story. Which can be a little hard to follow. All in all I much prefer Drive. Which is really the only good movie from this director. His other works include Valhalla Rising, Bronson and Pusher. None of which were big hits. Not sure on this one Provisionally 2.5/5

The Colony

The Colony - did not come up to expectations. Watchable but only just. Another survival movie. Too slow - not well acted and underwhelming. Even action sequences were not that brilliant. 2/5 being generous.
