Legend - better than "The Krays" well acted, not fantastic but worth a watch. Annoyingly to me the audience laughed at what mostly I could not see as funny scenes, maybe I have a weird sense of humor or they do? 3.5/5

In the Heart of the Sea - as anticipated this was not well received in cinemas and box office figures confirm that this is a flop! Supposedly based on a true story of which the novel Moby Dick is based on. 1/5

Star Wars : The Force Awakens

Star Wars : The Force Awakens - this to me seemed to be simply a rehash/reverse of parts the original three movies (for instance instead of an evil father fighting his good son, we have an evil son fighting his good father!). Despite all the hype around it, I can only see it as very average. Nothing really new here. But I guess the fans will whoop it up no matter what. 3/5 at a push.

Point Break 2015

Point Break - not a patch off the original. The setting has been changed to a totally international one. Some poor acting did not help! 2/5

Southpaw

Southpaw - excellent well acted, great boxing scenes one of the better movies this year. If you liked the Rocky series you will love this, much better! 4/5

Hitman Agent 47

Hitman Agent 47 - not as good as the first movie. But there is plenty of action for action fans. With well choreographed fight scenes. 2.5/5

Victor Frankenstein

Victor Frankenstein - expected better from McAvoy who has mostly done quite good movies and roles. This has a poor story line and in some cases poor performances from the actors. 2/5

Heist AKA Bus 657 - what do past their prime movie stars do? make movies where they only play a small role but their name sells the movie! Very below par crime thriller. Nice twist at the end cannot really save it though. 2/5

The Hunger Games Mocking Jay Part 2 - not a fan of this series and this probably the last is no exception. Aimed more at the teenage market, hence short on plot, big on action well not that much action! 2/5

The Man in the High Castle Season 1 - found this not as good as expected. The last episode of season 1, I think gives away who the man in the high castle is, too easily unless I am totally wrong? 2.5/5

SPECTRE

Spectre - had been awaiting this one. Not to sure how this compares with other Craig outings? this is obviously aimed at asking will Daniel Craig do another? or is this his last (let's face it previous Bonds have not really had exceptional careers post Bond). There are obvious scenes relating to previous Bond movies. The car with an ejector seat and machine gun (Goldfinger), the fight scene on the train (From Russia with Love), and the ending right out of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, leaving us with the question will his new girlfriend get shot as in OHMSS and he goes after Blofeld or does he settle down and not come back??? 3.5/5

The Last Witch Hunter

The Last Witch Hunter - as expected not exactly brilliant! Diesel needs to stick to what he is good at action thrillers not period fantasy as this is. 2/5

Bridge of Spies

Bridge of Spies, I was hoping this would be good as it is set in era I am interested in historically. However, this was a poor semi biopic. Very disappointing 2/5

Sicario - a little disappointed with this, expected an action thriller, instead it was a thriller with some action. Not bad (liked the shootout in the traffic jam probably the best bit?)maybe a little slow was similar to Trafik in some respects but with darker motives. 3/5

Self/Less

Selfless - not a bad movie, more action scenes as his memory came back would have helped. But was kept interested this thriller.3.5/5

Fantastic 4

Fantastic 4 - very poor remake, I did not think that much of the originals a few years back. But they did have a certain charm about them. This is a very straight laced slight variation on the story with no or little action until near the end. I did not spot a Stan Lee cameo, but I am sure he will be in there somewhere unless even he realized how poor this is and did not appear for once with a now gratuitous inevitability. 1/5

Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation

Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation - enjoyed this kind of a mish mash of earlier movies. With action, suspense and drama. Not sure if it is as good as earlier ones in the series. I still think the first one was closer to the original TV series. But I also liked the John Woo directed part 2. Probably the last installment, but then I have heard that before. 4/5

CHILD44

Child 44 - was rather disappointing, I had expected more than a poor story about a Russian serial killer, that was kept hidden for years, I have seen a previous movie and documentary, which seems to be based on same story, but this movie is set earlier in history. 2/5

Ant Man

Ant man - I thought for once we had a Stan Lee free movie, but no sure enough he turns up towards the end in another cameo FFS! Does he have to be in every marvel movie! very annoying! the movie it's self was not too bad entertaining, but not what expect from this kind of movie will he join the avengers? 3/5

Big Game

Big Game - very disappointing movie. Thought this might be like Air force one, but more of a childs film a damp squib really. 2/5

Terminator Genysis

Terminator Genysis - on first viewing not anywhere near as good as originals 1 and 2, very disappointing, some minor laughs with "I'll be back" and that smile! had expected more from Arnie. 3/5 at best!

It Follows

It Follows - Mark Kermode liked this one, I have to say I thought it was a little different to the normal horror tripe very understated, not really frightening, good 80s sounding sound track very electronic OK I guess overall. 3/5

Focus

Focus - the only thing to focus on here was the leading lady! there were parts where you did think just who is conning who, but this was a damp squib in the end! a generous 2/5

Survivor

Survivor - poor budget, poor storyline, poor acting don't bother with this one, do not know where they get the money from to make this crap 0/5

Tomorrowland

Tomorrowland - very underwhelming scifi family thriller, god fx but not that much else, there is a message being cast here, but it will never happen! 2.5/5

The Water Diviner - very average, unexciting but was timed well for the remembrance aspect. 2/5

Ex Machina - one of those that passed me by at the cinema, not a bad A.I. thriller, A young coder at the world's largest internet company, wins a competition to spend a week at a private retreat belonging to the reclusive CEO with strange unravelings. 2.5/5

Mad Max

Mad Max - Fury Road, never been a fan of these movies and this though it had plenty of action lacked a meaningful story 2/5

Black Mass

The true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf. (the departed was also partially based on this gangster's life)

Avengers age of Ultron

Avengers age of Ultron - enjoyable but not as good as the 1st installment story just lacked something. the now obligatory boring Stan Lee cameo happened again. 3/5

The Gunman

The Gunman - good action set pieces, story lacked the punch though of "Taken" from this Director of the same. Still watchable for the lads though. 3/5

Fortitude

Fortitude Season 1 - kind of Wallander meets Xfiles, bit slow to start but gets better, not the best TV series but at least it kept me watching which is more than I can say for series such as Breaking Bad. 3/5

Beyond the Reach

Beyond the Reach - an OK thriller, dipped somewhat during the middle, but interest rose after that, poor for a Michael Douglas movie though expected better. 2.5/5

Last Knights

Last Knights - seemed to be not that good even by viewing the trailer. But is is not as bad as it first seems. Has many Asian warrior values and aspects to it, not surprisingly as it is Korean produced. Worth a watch on a Sunday afternoon i particularly relate to the line goes something like "there will be times we cannot stop injustice, but we must protest against it" very apt today! 2.5/5

Run All Night

Run All Night - is a reasonable crime thriller, but not what I was hoping for. Some decent if violent action scenes though. Worth a watch though 3/5

Fast and Furious 7

Fast and Furious 7 - I enjoyed this, but I would not say it was a fantastic action thriller. As indeed the rest of the series has been. But it has a following. this appears to be the last in the series, but then I thought No.6 was going to be the last one. But they are now down one of the main stars to whom the movie is dedicated. 3/5

Good Kill

Good Kill - I did not really expect this to excite too much as it is based on true events. I was right, there is a message about morality in war here I think! and that war has almost become a game, especially to drone pilots! 2.5/5

The Gambler - could not really see the point is this film unless you have been addicted to gambling? I suppose the perfomances were not bad, but the only good thing really was the female lead Brie Larson! 2/5

as I expected not much to like here obviously aimed at teenagers, curious though how many of these uprising with disillusion of despotic governments or leaders are being made, message there for fat cat capitalist governments. beware we could rise up!! 1/5

Blackhat

 I started to view this movie did not see start titles so I did not know this was a Michael Mann movie. It is certainly not the usual story type of Mann, I thought as it went on, that the trade marks of Michael Mann were there such as realistic loud shoot outs similar to Heat and Miami Vice, very dark and the soundtrack was very like Public Enemies and yes at the end it was I discovered a Michael Mann film as I had suspected. Although this was a bit slow and seemed to lack the emotional personal vengeance theme you might expect in other movies. it was quite well done and I am a Mann fan to a certain extent. Worth a watch. 3.5/5

Wild card

 is a below par action thriller, not that much action and not that thrilling. Statham has done much better movies. 2/5

Kidnapping Mr. Heineken

 was interesting as I never knew anything about this, don't know where I was? Moral of the story is good at the end. but the movie it's self is not that fantastic, it's value is only as a docufilmentry. 2/5

Jupiter Ascending

Jupiter Ascending - is a very ordinary scifi movie, the acting is a bit wooden, and the story is poor. Some good sfx action scenes cannot really save it! 2.5/5

Kingsman

Kingsman - is a tongue in cheek take off of the spy thriller genre. It owes much to the Bond movies, but with modern streetwise overtones. Again acting underwhelming as is the story. 2.5/5

John Wick

excellent action thriller, this is how action movies should be. Virtually non stop action (like Taken) but still with at least some semblance of a story and meaning. You just know that when his fave car is stolen and they thieves kill his dog a present from his recently passed wife, that the bad guys are going to regret it. Almost martial arts like shoot outs with guns as well as the usual hand to hand martial arts too. More please!! 5/5 reblog.

Taken 3

 found this a little underwhelming compared to the first instalment and even the second. I think the series has now run it's course unless they get back to brass tacks ie the hard edged action of the first movie. 3/5

American Sniper

again well acted story based on true events. Marksman and hero who did several tours in Iraq and was traumatized by it. Only to be killed on his home ground by a fellow soldier who he was trying to help. Directed by Clint Eastwood. 3.5/5
