Exodus - is a vast improvement on Noah as a bible epic drama. Not fantastic but maybe worth a watch if you have nothing better to do. 3/5

Hercules - was surprisingly entertaining. Not a brilliant movie, but worth a watch on a Sunday afternoon.3/5

The Dying of the Light

The Dying of the Light - is a very poor spy thriller Nicolas Cage has really gone down! This has the feeling of a TV movie as does his other recent movie Left Behind. 1/5

Gone Girl

Gone Girl - is a thriller that is overly long ( it could have been done in 90 mins not 150 mins and maybe a little too complex maybe? Interesting to some extent, but I could not sit through it again! 2/5

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 1

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 1 - I have to say I am not a big fan of this series, but this is the best so far. Again a movie with a political undertones. 3/5

Predestination

Predestination - this promised to be a good old scifi action thriller but did not deliver. Far too much dialogue and drama. very little action and very few thrills. 2/5

Deliver us from Evil

Deliver us from Evil - not bad but not brilliant either. This owes much to the Exorcist and is said to be based on a true story. But how many times have I heard that! I think Oliver Stone's JFK is a brilliant movie. And I do believe there was more than meets the eye to the assassination. But some parts of the movie are stretching the imagination a little. Anyway 2.5/5 for this one.

Young Ones

Young Ones - with this title I expected to see a ginger haired punk rocker. But no this was a serious movie. Not overly impressive very average thriller.2/5

The Giver

The Giver - not a bad movie and some good performances. I expected this to be rubbish. But was not bad at all. There is also a political message here too!

Before I go to Sleep - is a very average thriller about a woman who cannot remember what happened the day before when she goes to sleep due to an attempted murder attack on her. 2.5/5

The Hidden Fortess

Did you know? and not a lot of people know this! Star Wars is influenced by The Hidden Fortress a Japanese movie where a band of samurai escort a princess through enemy territory, currently showing on Film 4.

St. Vincent

St. Vincent - Bill Murry can do light comedy/ drama unlike the stars of 22 Jump Street! This is a well acted and slightly moving movie about relationship between a boy and his mother and their new neighbour they have moved next door to. 4/5

22 Jump Street

22 Jump Street - very poor action comedy. I laughed once, maybe American comedy goes over my head. But I do not get this movie or the first one at all. Why take to 30 somethings to act like teenagers just to use that as a running joke through out the movie. Why not get someone who looks like a teenager or better still real teenagers. Channing Tatum particularly seems to have been slotted in this type of role action/comedy. But it does not suit him. Why not put him in a straight action role? In White House Down he seemed out of his depth comedy wise anyway! Must we suffer more of this? apparently yes as even a multiple of sequels is used as a vain attempt at comedy on the end credits. Jump Street 2121 oy! I wish I was dead! 1/5 for turning up! in cinemas.

The Babadook

The Babadook - Mark Kermode said this was a better than average horror flick. Sorry but it ain't! It is good at building the suspense and trying to make you think that the child is actually Babadook. But 2/5 only for me.

Interstellar

Interstellar - this really bored me for at least the first half. it concentrated too much on the family relationships too much I thought. However, later half of the movie is better if a little confusing and then you see why they concentrated so much on the relationships side. Basically I think the premise is (what I was told at school) that if you can travel fast enough or in one way or another (in this case multi dimensional) you can go to another star system and maybe come back before you have left and or change history. 2.5/5

The Judge

The Judge - surprisingly I found this not too bad at all. I am not a big fan of Robert Downey Jr.. His method of acting has not changed since he started(eg. one of his early small parts in Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield). he acts like a teenager with an attitude and a few jokes which are not usually funny. Ironman movies probably his best. But not necessarily because he is in them! Good family values movie.3/5

John Wick

John Wick - excellent action thriller, this is how action movies should be. Virtually non stop action (like Taken) but still with at least some semblance of a story and meaning. You just know that when his fave car is stolen and they thieves kill his dog a present from his recently passed wife, that the bad guys are going to regret it. Almost martial arts like shoot outs with guns as well as the usual hand to hand martial arts too. More please!! 5/5

Fury

Fury - was a little disappointing. I was expecting better. However, it did carry a message currently relevant as it is memorial week. Spoiler - in the end some of these soldiers give their lives to save other soldiers and for freedom. Something this government could do with learning!!! 3/5

The Equalizer

The Equalizer - good action movie well acted. But I expected no less with Denzel being the Star. However, it is a bit far fetched in that he kills everyone with varoius DIY tools, when his enemies have guns. Yes Denzel has found a 1001 ways how to use DIY tools to kill with. 4/5

Transcendence

Transcendence - a very interesting and well acted movie. Not perhaps as good as I expected it to be. But one of the better movies of late. 4/5.

The Expendables 3

The Expendables 3 is big on action. But low on story. Not as good as the previous outings. But then few sequels are! 3/5.

Edge of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow was not as good as it promised to be. But I was entertained and it was better than some movies of late. Cruise does usually come up with entertaining roles if nothing else. 3.5/5

X MEN - days of future past.

X MEN - days of future past. This was very average got more interesting in the latter part of the movie. But once again not a particularly exciting movie. 3/5

Godzilla

Godzilla what a pile of pants. It seems all you need these days to make a movie is someone daft enough to finance a poor script and get an actor from a popular TV series (not popular with me Breaking Bad is as bad as this movie) 0/5 save your money and go watch Edge of Tomorrow.

Sabotage

Sabotage fairly average action thriller, some good action sequences though. I guessed who took the money less than halfway through though. So very predictable. But I enjoyed none the less. 3.5/5

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - much better than the first installment, better story more action and special effects. Not the best super hero Movie I have seen. But fair 3/5

Noah

Noah - very unremarkable bible story with a modern message linked. We are destroying the planet! 2/5 Poor performances all round!

Reasonable Doubt

Reasonable Doubt - very average thriller. Coopers American accent not good! and spoils the movie for me. Ok if you have nothing better to do. 2/5

300 Rise of an Empire

300 Rise of an Empire - not a patch of the Original. The action sequences are there but the performances are not! And it seems it has been made with the TV series in mind like Game of thrones with bad language and sex scenes. poor sequel 2/5

Need for Speed

Need for Speed - based on video game. This is a cross between Vanishing point and The Fast and Furious. Very bland as per Mark kermode too long, poor dialog and it has all been seen before. Gamers wil probably like it. Found it very disappointing. Fast and Furious Franchise is better perhaps with the exception of the 3rd one. 2/5

3 Days to Kill

3 Days to Kill - some good action sequences here. But that is about it. The story is weak inters-pursed between spy thriller and family problems. I Think McG has tried to make a "Taken" type thriller. But not even a chip off that movie. It does not work! 2/5

Dallas Buyer's Club

Dallas Buyer's Club - yes well acted. But did not get the subject matter. And found it quite uninteresting maybe because i twas based on real life story. 2/5

Out of the Furnace

Out of the Furnace - enjoyed this one reminiscent vaguely of the Deer Hunter very well performed. Much better than Dallas buyers club - which I simply did not get the attraction to at all. 3.5/5

12 Years a slave

12 Years a Slave - very well performed. I can see why it has won awards and is up for an Oscar. The fact that it is based upon a true story also sits well. Reminds me of the TV series Roots. Worth a watch 3.5/5

American Hustle

American Hustle yes some good performances. But the subject matter was not that interesting to me at least. 2.5/5

Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit

Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit - worth a watch if you have nothing else to do. No where near as good as the previous Jack Ryan outings, it has neither the suspense or the performances required. 2.5/5

I, Frankenstein

I Frankenstein very poor action horror not one to watch. very underwhelmed 2/5

The Monuments Men

The Monuments men while enjoyable to watch and quite interesting, if you are in to modern history like me. But not a brilliant movie. 3/5

Oldboy

Old boy is an excellent if a little predictable thriller. Pity there were not more fight scenes as they were very well choreographed. 4/5

Robocop 2014

Robocop 2014 simply does not have the attitude of the original and in no way competes with it. Performance are quite wooden apart from maybe Gary Oldman.Very average actioner! 3/5 at best!

Lone Survivor

Lone Survivor - very good action sequences. Quite well performed. But not so sure about the real reasons US forces are in Afghanistan and whether this paints a true picture of that issue is debatable. It basically says the same as what was said about Vietnam they are there to help the people hmmm? But quite moving none the less. 4/5

The Fifth Estate

The Fifth Estate was not as good as I expected it to be. Interesting but depicted Assange as a bitter twisted and possibly insane person towards the end. Probably to the advantage of America's intelligence services. 2.5/5

47 Ronin

47 Ronin was ok. But not what I was expecting. Enjoyable and interesting none the less. 3/5

Ender's Game

Spolier warning - Enjoyed Ender's Game. Good but the end battle simulation was predictableably real (and again there appears to be a massage about going to war here) 3.5/5

According to Mark kermode this does what horror movie should do. Grab you by the balls straight from the get . Sorry but I think it is just another slice em and dice em, with one of the targets finding they have the talent to fight back. 2/5

Grudge Match

Grudge Match - I found to be quite boring. It attempts to be a comedy drama. But it was not funny and not that dramatic either. 1/5

The Wolf of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street is basically a Wall Street for the 00s. Interesting in that it portrays a true story of greed and excess ( suspect with some dramatic licence though). It is true in that many of those who defrauded the public never went to prison! well acted 3/5

Vendetta

I am not a big fan of Danny Dwyer at all. But he does put in a fair effort in this role. And the storyline is ok. but nothing new here really. and this is superior to The Deadly game! 3.5/5
